What is e-juice and why do people say a juice needs to steep?

I found a wonderful blog about this topic and I want to share it with you. A link will be at the bottom of this short blog.

The basics of e-juice are generally that there are four basic components to most house juice.

* PG is propylene glycol. This is a wonderful product that is used in almost everything. It is an emulsifier, an air purifier, and is a food grade anti-freeze. This product has been studied by the FDA and they have definitions and guidelines on the safety of inhaling vaporized PG. PG is a thin watery substance that carries flavor well and gives a throaty "hit". A small percentage of the population may have a sensitivity to PG.

* VG is vegetable glycerin. This is a food grade, USP inspected and even kosher approved oil. This product is thicker than PG and produces a denser vapor. VG can give a less harsh vape and last longer than PG.

* Flavorings. These can be artificial, natural or even organic. If you buy a flavor labeled "organic", this will be the only ingredient that can be verified organic. Most flavors come in a PG base, but some may have an alcohol base. In e-juice, tobacco will be a flavor not an indication of nicotine. Most e-juice will be sweeter than a corresponding tobacco flavor because it is not being burned.

* Nicotine. Pure nicotine is dangerous. Most people choose to buy nicotine in a base of PG or VG at a safer level. For instance, you can buy DIY nicotine already in a 50/50 base at 18mg per ml. A person at home could simply add a flavor and allow the juice to steep. You do not have to add nicotine; any e-juice can be made with zero nicotine.

Steeping is allowing these compounds to mix and bond together. Before steeping, some flavors may seem harsh. If you allow time, some juices really improve. I promised at the start of this blog for a link. This article goes over ways to steep your juice and even has before and after pictures.
